In this talk, I will give an introduction to the geodesic flow on rank one manifolds of nonpositive curvature, particularly on its nonuniform hyperbolicity and ergodic properties. I will also present the Patterson-Sullivan construction of the measure of maximal entropy following the work of Knieper.
